Abstract The article is devoted to the consideration of the works of P.A. Minakir, in which the subject area of spatial economics and its relationship with the subject areas of general economic theory are determined. Attention is focused on the three basic topics of spatial economic analysis disclosed in these works: the genesis of spatial research, the «philosophy» of economic space and the relationship between fundamental and applied spatial developments.
